What Is Sand Casting?
Sand Casting Is A Common Metal Casting Process That Uses A Sand Mold To Inject Molten Metal Into The Mold To Form The Desired Casting. This Is A Relatively Simple And Cost-Effective Casting Method.

In Sand Casting, A Mold Is First Made, Usually Using A Specially Formulated Mixture Of Sand Particles As The Mold Material. This Mixture Of Sand Particles Can Be Prepared By Mixing A Fine-Grained Material Such As Quartz Sand, A Binder (Usually Clay), And Water. The Process Of Making The Mold Includes The Making Of The Mold Core And The Making Of The Sand Mold, Where The Mold Core Is Used To Make The Internal Cavity Shape, And The Sand Mold Is Used To Make The Outer Shape.

After The Sand Mold Is Made, A Series Of Casting Props Are Set Up In The Center Of The Mold To Facilitate The Injection And Cooling Of Metal. Next, The Metal Material (Usually Iron, Steel, Aluminum, Etc.) Is Heated And Melted, And Then Injected Into The Mold. Once The Metal Has Cooled And Hardened In The Mold, The Mold Can Be Opened And The Resulting Casting Removed.

What Is Sand Casting Processes?

-Mold Preparation:
Prepare The Corresponding Mold According To The Shape And Size Of The Casting That Needs To Be Cast. It Is Usually A Mold Consisting Of Two Parts, An Upper Mold, And A Lower Mold. Molds Can Be Made Of Wood, Metal Or Resin.

-Mold Assembly:
Assemble The Upper And Lower Molds To Ensure That The Mold Is Structurally Sound And That The Casting Operation Can Proceed Smoothly.

-Mold Filling:
Spray Or Compact The Sand Core Into The Mold And Place The Sand Core Into The Mold. The Purpose Of Filling The Sand Core Is To Form Cavities Inside The Part, Such As Holes, Pipes, Etc.

-Casting Material Preparation:
According To The Metal Materials That Need To Be Cast, Prepare The Corresponding Casting Materials. The Metal Material Is Usually Heated And Melted Into A Liquid State So That It Can Be Poured Into A Mold.

-Casting Operations:
The Molten Metal Material Is Poured Into The Mold, Filling The Entire Mold Cavity.

-Cooling And Solidification:
Wait For The Molten Metal To Cool And Solidify In The Mold, Turning It Into A Solid Casting. The Length Of This Process Depends On The Size Of The Casting And The Nature Of The Material.

-Mold Disassembly:
After The Casting Has Cooled, The Mold Is Disassembled. Usually, The Upper Mold And Lower Mold Are Separated And The Casting Is Taken Out.

-Cleaning And Trimming:
After The Casting Is Removed From The Mold, The Surface Is Cleaned Of Grit Residue And Other Impurities, And The Casting Is Ground, Trimmed And Machined To Obtain The Required Size, Shape And Surface Quality.

-Post-Processing:
As Needed, The Castings Are subject to Heat Treatment, Surface Treatment, Inlay, And Other Processes To Increase The Strength, Corrosion Resistance, And Decorative Properties Of The Castings.
